It has been said that "Every Life has a Story." I have always believed that "Every SONG has a Story" as well.
Songs are kind of like your children. You birth them, raise them, and at some point you let them go to find their place in the world. Sometimes they make you really proud. Sometimes they cost you a lot of money. Some take directions you never would have imagined. All of them have stories!
In this section of my site, I will feature from time to time some of the literally hundreds of songs I have written, but I will also include a little bit of the story behind the song. All the songs featured here (as well as many more in my catalog) are available to local, regional and national artists for performance and recording. Please contact me for permission and assistance.
The idea for this song came from a T-Shirt I saw one day in WalMart. I later discovered it was a famous quote by poet/philosopher, G.K. Chesterton which said, "Angels can fly cause they take themselves lightly." With the help of my wonderful collaborator, Cheryl Bocanegra, it is now a jazz tune!
This slightly steamy ballad was inspired one day when I was watching the Oprah Show. Whitney Houston was Oprah’s guest that day and Oprah asked her a couple of personal questions about her marriage to Bobby Brown. Responding, Whitney said, “Well, sometimes some things are better left unsaid.”
One of my favorite hymns is Take My Life with lyrics by Nineteenth Century poet, Frances Havergal. Some years ago I composed new music for the traditional hymn. The singer is Cecilia, an international vocalist from Norway. Let me know what you think.
This song celebrates the power of choice to change the future rather than being trapped in the past. It was written with my good friend and collaborator, Brian Wooten.
